SPORTS DAY 2008

The sun certainly shone on St. Nicholas' Sports Day this year.  Baking temperatures and enthusiastic children created the recipe for the perfect day!

Please enjoy the pictures and read the children's reports of this fantastic day!

SHELLIE MAY'S SPORTS DAY

On Tuesday 10 June we did Sports Day, it was so cool. Haf were coming 3rd and we only had one more event left to do that was shuttle relay when it started we were coming 4th. Then at the end we caught up then we came 1st, it was amazing. Then we went back to anounce the scores and it was out of Hydref and Haf So we had either come 1st or 2nd then Mr Williams was loking at us Haf then he said Hydref, so everyone in Haf were screeming as loud as they could because when Mr. W said Hydref that was for 2nd place and we came 1st so everyone was happy including Mrs Fouracre.  So we were all holding the cup that we had won.  So Haf has won it for 3 times in a row now.

CHLOE'S CRAZY SPORTS DAY

MAX'S MAD SPORTS DAY

My favourite part of the day was when we had to do the obstacle and spud & spoon race.  I enjoyed sports day because my mum was there cheering me on, and even thought I lost mum was proud of me and that meant more than anything.  But the best was when Greens (Haf) won Sports Day this year.

The victorious house - Haf - celebrating.

Although who are those 2 peculiar creatures on the back row (either side of the mascot, ha ha!)

In Sports Day we did all different kind of races like Sprint, Skipping, Relay, Obstacle, Spud & Spoon and Tug-of War.  I did really well in the sprint because I came 1st and Shellie and Hannah came 2nd and 3rd and we are all in Greens.

When we has all the results Ty Gwanwyn came in 4th place and then Ty Gaeaf.  Greens all thought we would be 2nd, then Mr. Williams revealed the results and said the winners are Ty Haf.  YES WE WERE ALL REALLY HAPPY. And we all got to hold the cup, we were all really happy because we have now won for the last 3 years running.

What a great day was had by all!  Once again we participated in the annual Vale Swimming Gala at Pencoed Swimming Pool and had a great day out.

Although we were never going to challenge for the lead, due to the fact we only had a small squad and not children swimming in every race., we tried our hardest in every race.

Read all  the children's reviews of how their particular race went!

On Wednesday 18th of June Year 5 and 6 went to the swimming Gala, we didn't win we came last it was a great day.
Oh yeh I raced in the 25m Front Crawl and the 50m Back s

Stroke and the relay.

by Chloe Bridgeman

The Swimming Gala was so cool. The races I was in were Front Crawl 2 lengths, Mixed Relay and Girls Relay 1 length.

We came last in the mixed and girls relay and i come 4th out of 5 in the front stroke. We might not have won but we really tried hard.

by Abbie-Lee Cornish

A British National Champion at St. Nicholas C/W Primary School

Katie Munro, British Champion

A proud champion!

On the 27th of July I was at a great Britain surf life saving  competition in Devon I had to do all types of competitions there like sprints, long distance and more.

When went in the sea and came back out again I had to put on my space suit which is just a huge coat which covers your whole body and its like a radiator in there !!

It was very tough in Devon because there are a lot of very good people out there and  was difficult in all the races.

I did win a medal though, which was in the board which is where I have to go out into the sea  with a board and paddle quite far out and come back in again, I won a gold medal in that which meant I was the best out of great Britain for 11 year olds!

I was very happy with myself  but the main thing is to get points  for my team which were Rhoose and also I just ha to have fun which I did.

I am so proud of your achievements Katie!  That is a great honour to be British Champion, make sure you shout it from the rooftops!  Forget Jonny Weismuller or Mark Spitz, the Swimming Hall of Fame had better make way for KATIE MUNRO
