THE ENGLISH CURRICULUM AT ST. NICHOLAS
Aims
The aim of the school's English of Work is to enable pupils to
*Have a growing awareness that language serves a range of purposes and varies according to context and audience or readership;
*Speak clearly and with increasing confidence and flluency;
*Communicate information effectively and give and respond to instructions appropriately;
*Listen purposefully and engage confidently in role play and drama and interact with one another and the teacher using appropriate language;
*Increasingly sustain discussion and advocate and justify points of view;
*Be familiar with a range of strategies for reading and employ them effectively;
*Be able to read accurately, fluently and with appropriate expression;
*Have a clear understanding of what they read and view;
*Read and respond to a wide variety of literary, non literary, media and moving image texts, including some which have special reference to Wales or are from other cultures and traditions;
*Be able to respond orally and in writing to texts of increasing complexity;
*Be able to understand implicit as well as explicit meanings;
*Write a variety of formats and for different purposes and audiences;
*Are increasingly able to produce purposeful and sustained writing using accurate spelling and punctuation and appropriate handwriting;
*Demonstrate an appropriate command of standard English and be able to recognise and use an increasing range of styles and language registers;
*Revise and redraft their writing and present it appropriately;
*Become increasingly able to reflect independently on what they have written.

WRITING WORKSHOP WITH DAMIAN CLARKE
Mr. Clarke come in to do like a writing workshop. First Mr. Clarke read a book about a spooky house then once he had finished we had to carry on making the end by our self. It was really fun and thank you for coming in to write with us!!!

Yesterday a mane called Mr.Clarkcame in to do english with yr 5 & 6. It was good fun and I got to be yr 6 for the session. He done a session with yr 5 (and some yr 4)and a different one with yr 6(and some yr 5). We done different stuff like describing pictures, reading a bit of a story(I really want to read the rest!) and looking for adjectives, verbs, nouns and more.

Mr. Clark
Whith mr.clarck it was really fun. First he read us a story mr.clarck scared us a bit.Then after we writ a story my favorat bit was when he was reading the story and almost made james fall of his chair.
