THE SPRING CURRICULUM

English

This term Class 3 have been writing newspaper reports, finding out how non-fiction texts work and creating questions for research and quiz sheets.

During the rest of the term, they will become poets exploring classical , performance, haiku and cinquain poetry. They will also be using similes, metaphores and alliteration . To link with the history topic, Class 3 will be finding out about  shakespeare!

 

Maths

Learning the multiplication tables will be essential homework for Class 3 this term as number work will focus on multiplication and division. Class 3 will  learn the mental maths strategies of using known facts and  partitioning, with the written method to help them when the numbers are really big! They will be solving tricky maths problems and  investigating shapes, finding fractions, measuring perimeters and calculating area.  They will be learning how to tell the time, too.

 

 

Science

"Dem bones, dem bone, dem dry bones,,,"

Science this term investigates life processes, , the human body (including the skeleton) and a healthy lifestyle. The visit to Explore @ Bristol with Class 4 gave this work a flying start.

RE

The Creation story and Looking after God's world have been the areas for interesting ideas and reflection during this term. Leading up  to Easter, Class 3 will be explorg relationships and the journey of life,  with plenty of opportunities for evn more thoughtful  discussions!

 

History

"Off with their heads!"  said Henry V111.

Class 3 will be finding out why when they research the Tudors during this term. They will also find out about life in Tudor times and compare it with today

Geography

What's the weather like today? Class 3  are finding out about weather forecasts, how to use weather instruments and  discovering why Wales is so wet !

 

 

D.T.

Child + wood +saw can be a dangerous combination,  but not for cCass 3 when they design and learn how to make picture frames safely. It will also give them plenty of practise for constructing a 3D Tudor house next term.

Art

Do I really look like that?

Usimg different tools, techniques and photographs has helped Class 3 to produce self portraits and images of each other during the Spring Term. Looking at the work of other artists and  recreating Tudor portrits will lead to  interesting 2D and 3D work  later this term.

I.T.

Creating fantastic Powerpoint presentations and interesting databases are Class  3's areas for learning this term.  The children have also used the laptops to write up newspaper reports and stories and the Internets for research.

 

 

Welsh

"Dw i'n hoffi sicled" was the favourite statement in Welsh during the last few weeks. It's good that we will now be focusing on Chwaraeon to keep our minds on a healthier lifestyle! 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PE EXTRAVOGANZA

Coach Adrian of Sportstars has practised gymnastics and team games during the first half of the Spring Term, while Futureblues have concentrated on tag rugby.

Mrs. Sully, our student teacher, has also been carrying out research on the impact of regular exercise on learning with 10 minutes aerobics and co-ordination exercises each day.

For the rest of this term we will  be improving our Squash skills and having fun with country dancing.

CLASS TRIPS

 

Another busy year of trips have included a joint trip to @ Bristol Museum with Class 4.

 

 

During the Summer Term an amazing trip has been organised to the Tower of London!

 

And the piest de resestance in a Residential Venture Week in LLANGRANNOG in West Wales! for the Year 5's
