Welcome to additional support.

Miss Morris provides the majority of all support, alongside her team of Catch Up trained LSAs.  Most support is provided in the library, a quiet room, away from all of the school's day to day hustle and bustle.  Children are either supported on an individual basis on specific programs, or as part of small group from the same year group or class.

CATCH UP
Catch Up is a reading program, designed to help children reach their full potential in reading.  Each child has two 15 minute sessions a week where they share, read, discuss and carry out a writing activity based on new books.  A session begins with a chat about the book, looking at illustations and discussing vocabulary that they may find dificult.  They then read the book, whilst the teacher records any miscues.  The story is discussed and they end by completing a writing activity based on one of the miscues made whilst they were reading.  The children all respond positively to Catch Up, and enjoy the sessions, and the books that they are reading, which are a mixture of fiction and non-fiction.  There is also a Catch Up computer program containing literacy games which the children thoroughly enjoy using.

STARSPELL
Starspell is a computer program that provides children with the opportunity to practice carefully selected spellings each week.  It is a multi-sensory approach to the teaching of spelling as the children have to look at the word before it disappears, they listen to each word being repeated before they then have to type the word on the computer.  They are then given the opportunity to practice the words further, in the form of games and a worksheet that the program generates based on the words that they have practised.

Additional Programs

Other programs used include Launch The Lifeboat, a structured literacy program, Write From The Start, a fine motor control program which helps to develop basic letter formation skills, through to more fluent and joined handwriting and Plus 1 and Power 2 numeracy programs.

Summary

All individual programs and group work is carried out within a positive and rewarding environment, where all effort and success is celebrated.  Programs and work carried out are chosen carefully with each individual childs needs taken into careful consideration.  The library provides a quiet environment where all resouces are to hand, and where children can work free of the distractions normally found in the classroom.
